Spring 2 2020
The past few weeks have been very busy for Cedar class. Moving forward we continue to be determined to learn through a lot of play and class based learning. Our focus is always on developing the pupils’ Social and Emotional Skills, allowing them to access learning better as a result. In doing so, this will allow the children to achieve even more and reflect on how fantastic they really are!
This half term our topic will be the ‘’Dinosaurs’’. During the course of the term we are going to learn about fossils, different species, how the dinosaurs became exstinct and the theory of evolution. The intention will be to make this as cross-curricular as possible, linking other subjects to the topic in order to encourage pupils to learn about the topic in more depth. As the term progress’ we may explore other topics which are of interest to the pupils. The aim of the class is to always foster their enthusiasm for learning so when the opportunity arises we may do so.
In maths we are going to be developing our calculation skills and looking at how to apply these when solving word problems. We are also going to be considering data handling, creating graphs and tables and then analysing their results. To achieve this we will be playing lots of interactive games, consolidating past learning and developing new skills.
In English this term, the children are going to be continuing to explore Science Fiction texts, particularly Dr Who Stories. This focus has been taken due to pupil interest and is being used to great effect as a motivator. We will also be looking to continue to improve the boys spelling, grammar and punctuation skills. This term will also see the school celebrate World Book Day. The school is using this as a platform to foster a love for reading and to develop Speaking and Listening skills. Moving forward we intend to continue this focus at every opportunity.
We will send out newsletters every half term so please keep an eye out on the school website. Should you wish to receive a paper copy, please let the office know. You will also receive a curriculum grid every half term; this outlines what your child will be learning in school. Although we do not set formal homework, supporting your child with times tables, spellings and reading will always help to accelerate progress.
We really enjoy making positive phonecalls. If you have any questions please ask us when we call or alternatively you can always contact the school office and we will call you back as soon as possible.
Looking forward to a great half term.
