We have had a very successful first half term as a new class. We continue to be determined to learn through a lot of play and class based learning. Dan Rogers and Jade Murply are supporting the children in developing their Social and Emotional Skills. In doing so this will allow the children to develop their learning and reflect on how fantastic they really are!
This half term our topic will be the ‘’Rainforests’’. We will be exploring who and what lives there, considering conservation issues. The intention will be to make this as cross-curricular as possible, linking other subjects to the topic in order to encourage to learn about the topic in more depth. As the term progress’ we may explore other topics which are of interest to the pupils. The aim of the class is to always foster their enthusiasm for learning so when the opportunity arises we may do so.
In maths we are going to be developing our knowledge of fractions and decimals. Moving forward we will be exploring the properties of shapes and different measures. To achieve this we will be playing lots of interactive games, consolidating past learning and developing new skills.
In English this term, the children will be studying units of work to develop their knowledge of different texts. They will also be looking to improve their spelling, grammar and punctuation skills. There is going to be a big focus on reading this term. The intention being to increase the frequency which the pupils read and ultimately foster their enjoyment of different genres.
The pupils will continue to have a Forest Schools session every Thursday afternoon. As result having a spare set of outdoor clothes and alternative footwear would be very useful. A P.E kit available each week is also important.
We will send out newsletters every half term so please keep an eye out on the school website. Should you wish to receive a paper copy, please let the office know. You will also receive a curriculum grid every half term; this outlines what your child will be learning in school. Although we do not set formal homework, supporting your child with times tables, spellings and reading will always help to accelerate progress.
We really enjoy making positive phonecalls. If you have any questions please ask us when we call or alternatively you can always contact the school office and we will call you back as soon as possible.
Looking forward to a great half term.
Dan and Jade
